Lag B'Omer Yiddish-kite Parade & Family Festival
What do balloons, kites, flags, and bagpipes have in common? They all contributed to the fun and fancy of the Chabad of the North Shore’s Lag B’Omer parade and festival.
The action began just after 11 am on Sunday 6th May, when the live Bagpipe Band kicked off the parade inside the Chabad House. With the band leading the way, three blocks, thirty minutes, a dozen enthralled/perplexed local residents and countless stratospheric helium balloons later it finished at the local oval. The ensuing festival boasted kite flying, a jumping castle, a giant slide, face painting, a sausage sizzle, music, a prize fishing pond, and, of-course, dozens of exceptionally excited children.
The most surprising treat of the day, however, was to see Rabbi Chanoch Sufrin in his now famous Energizer Bunny mode as he ran a few victory laps around the oval while attempting to keep his kite airborne. After more than six extraordinary years, this event gave the community of Chabad of the North Shore a wonderful opportunity to spend one more quality afternoon with Chanoch and his family before relinquishing him to our Brisbane counterpart, where he will no doubt continue to spread the joy of Yiddish-kite.
