Celebrate Purim
at Chabad North Shore
Purim: 28 Feb–1 Mar 2018
Message from the Rabbi

Dear Friend,

The jolly festival of Purim is celebrated every year on the 14th of the Hebrew month of Adar. It commemorates the salvation of the Jewish people in ancient Persia from Haman’s plot “to destroy, kill and annihilate all the Jews, young and old, infants and women, in a single day,” as recorded in the Megillah (book of Esther).

We should do our best to make sure every Jew—man, woman, and child—has the chance to fulfil all the mitzvos of Purim properly (The Rebbe).

Purim celebrations at Chabad are truly festive and joyous. The energy of joy is palpable as we celebrate the miraculous salvation of the Jews with programmes for all ages.

Let us ensure we fulfil all four Mitzvot of Purim:

  1. The Megillah.
Listen to the Megillah, the story of Purim on Wednesday eve and again on Thursday. Please see below for our Megillah reading times.
  2. Mishloach Manot.
Give two items of food to at least one friend (on Thursday), promoting kindness and unity among our people.
  3. Give Charity.
Give charity to at least two needy people (but preferably more) on Thursday. If you are not able to find a poor person, we can facilitate this great Mitzvah for you. Click donate (www.chabadhouse.org.au/donate) to send a donation which will be distribute for this purpose only (please make note, that it is for Purim Charity). Alternatively, you can give money to Rabbi Schapiro on Purim day, which he will distribute for you to people in need.
  4. Have a Festive Meal.
Celebrate the Purim miracle with a joyous and festive meal. What better way to celebrate, than with family and friends at Chabad's annual Purim dinner, this year "Purim in Jerusalem." See below for details.

Please join us at our Megillah readings, fun-filled Kids Purim, and the spectacular adult Purim in Jerusalem event.

Wishing you and your family a happy and joyous Purim.

Rabbi Nochum Schapiro

Give to the needy

Concern for the needy is a year-round responsibility; but on Purim it is a special mitzvah to remember the poor.

Give charity to at least two (but preferably more) needy individuals on Purim day, 1 March 2018.

If you are not able to find a poor person, we are able to facilitate this great Mitzvah for you. Click donate below to send a donation (note that it's for this cause), and we will distribute it people in need.

Send Food Portions to Friends

On Purim we emphasize the importance of Jewish unity and friendship by sending gifts of food to friends.

On Purim day, 1 March 2018, send a gift of at least two kinds of ready-to-eat foods (e.g., pastry, fruit, beverage) to at least one friend. Men should send to men, and women to women. It is preferable that the gifts be delivered via a third party. Children, in addition to sending their own gifts of food to their friends, make enthusiastic messengers.
